Cherry picking on the green

Some thirty people aging from 9 months to about 80 years old, and covering many nationalities (Chinese, Portuguese, American… ) met on Turnham Green to share this year’s generous cherry harvest.

Several trees bear an old English white/red variety, whereas others have a smaller morello-type cherry. At a rough estimate we may have picked about 50 kilos.

All were eagerly picked and then taken to homes all around West London to be either eaten raw, or made into a succession of delicious jams, pies, compotes or (go for it Jeremy!) cherry vodka.
