About

Abundance London is a community project based in Chiswick, West London, run by volunteers on a not-for-profit basis. We run environmental, educational projects. We started off harvesting the seasonal glut of local fruit, then we also began to guerilla garden abandoned patches and flower beds, and now we also organise art projects. We are not paid and any money goes directly back into our projects. We admit to getting some free fruit…

Since 2010 we have been harvesting the seasonal glut of local fruit (apples, pears, plums, quinces, cherries, grapes…). Each year hundreds of fruit trees go unpicked in parks, streets and the back gardens of local residents. Rare is the person who can cope with 90kg of Bramleys in their garden all ripe around the same time… We have been mapping the local fruit on our Chiswick Fruit Map. If you know of a tree that needs picking please email info@abundancelondon.com. And if you want to help pick, sign up on our mailing list and keep an eye out for picking info.

We pick with volunteers and local primary school groups. For the last six years we have run an Abundance Fruit Day, where we press several tonnes of fruit that would otherwise be wasted, make preserves and chutneys, and organise fun activities to celebrate nature’s bounty.

We also organise grafting workshops, pruning classes, foraging and wassailing… We regularly work with local businesses, large companies and charities to organise community events and work days.

For information about groups elsewhere in the UK, and information about equipment, recipes, insurance, and much more, check out our national website at www.abundancenetwork.org.uk.

Who we are

Abundance London is run by Sarah Cruz, Karen Liebreich MBE and Karen Wyatt. Between us, as they say, we have a wealth of design, horticultural, educational, community engagement and financial expertise. All of us have worked and lived in Chiswick for several years, and have brought up our families here.

Sarah Cruz is an award-winning graphic designer. Prior to Abundance London she ran an organisation called Local Produce, dedicated to eliminating food gluts.

Dr Karen Liebreich, MBE set up the Chiswick House Kitchen Garden; she is a historian and author. She received her MBE in 2013 for services to horticulture and education.
